If you are offered the opportunity to audition, there are certain preparatory steps which must be made in order to be successful.

THE BEST AUDITION WILL GET THE PART! It is just that simple.

There are a number of courses available on how to prepare for an audition. One of the most successful is conducted by Peter Skagen, a Calgary actor, writer and educator and Casting Director Deb Green.

The course is entitled Audition Hell. We highy recommend that you take this or a similar course to enhance your chances of success.

THE AUDITION
If you come unprepared, you are literally dead in the water. You will learn all about the do's and don'ts at your course. The best way to overcome nervousness is by knowing the process, the protocols and your material so they become second nature.

Your initial audition is usually for the Casting Director. You may be competing with several people for the role. Within the first couple of minutes, they will know whether or not you have done your homework. You will leave hearing a polite 'Thank You"....then cross your fingers and wait.

Ensure that you bring a current headshot and properly prepared Actor's Resumé (this is not the same as a CV for a job). This is a special format that gives the Casting Director all they need to know in a single glance.

From all the auditions...a CD or VHS is made up and sent to the Director who, in turn, prepares a short list and contacts the Casting Director to set up another round of auditions.

THE CALL BACK
If you are successful, you may be told you have the role or perhaps you will be contacted by us for a "Call Back", another audition usually for the same part...but this time, it is likely in the company of the Casting Director, the Director, the Star, perhaps a Producer, a reader and a cameraman. Again, there is a strict code of etiquette that must be followed.

THE PART
If you made the final cut....you are in. Your life will change immediately as will your payscale. Enjoy!

You just beat the 1/40 odds of getting the part...and will have to do it again next time. If you do a good job, the Casting Director will probably make a mental note about you for future casting.

You are on your way and we will be right there with you to help along the way.
